Preparation of a Clay Composite Containing Poly(o-toluidine) and Halloysite, and Examining of Its Performance as a Humidity Sensor

This study outlines the production of an electrically conductive clay-based composite containing halloysite as clay mineral and poly(o-toluidine) (POT) a filler. In study, POT/halloysite was obtained by in situ oxidative polymerization o-toluidine using ammonium persulphate (APS) oxidant between layers. By changing conditions such time, concentration, APS, concentration HCl solution used reaction medium, with highest conductivity (7.5×10-5 S.cm-1) obtained. Structural morphological changes thermal behaviors that occurred after formation revealed various characterization techniques FTIR, XRD, TGA, SEM. The usability prepared humidity sensing material tested comparison pure POT component at relative (% RH) varied 41-94 (%). Accordingly, it found exhibited fairly regular resistance change to varying compared polymer.
